Nominations were announced Dec. 9 for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut got up early to help reveal the 2025 nominations at an in-person announcement at the Beverly Hilton. They were joined by Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne and presented the nominees for each of the 27 award categories. Last year, Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama got up to help reveal the nominations.
The lineup includes 27 returning categories, including the two categories added last year: Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures. The latter category recognizes movies that earned $150 million or more at the box office, or equivalent viewing numbers in streaming. Voters then decided on the eight nominees, based on artistry and excellence.
The most nominated motion picture is Netflix's "Emilia Pérez" with 10. The Spanish-language musical was just one nomination shy of the record set by Robert Altman's "Nashville" in 1976.
A24's "The Brutalist" is next with seven nominations, followed by Focus Features' "Conclave" with six.
The top television series or programs are Hulu's "The Bear" (5), "Only Murders in the Building" (4) and "Shōgun" (4).
Netflix led distributors in the film categories (13) and TV categories (23). It was followed by HBO/Max (14) and FX/Hulu (10).
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will air live coast to coast on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on CBS and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.
Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to host. She is the first woman to solo host Hollywood's "party of the year."
The Golden Globes returned two years after a year on broadcast hiatus. Last year, the Globes shifted to CBS for the first time in more than four decades, from its longtime home on NBC. In March, CBS closed a five-year deal to continue to broadcast the awards show.
