There are 301 feature films that have made the cut to contend for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Ahead of the start of voting on Jan. 12, there are 301 feature films that have made the cut to contend for Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards, the Academy announced Monday.
This is up from last year's 276 films and down from 2020's 366 films, the highest number of eligible films since the 1970 awards, which had 374 eligible entries. For comparison, the first Oscars ceremony considered films from 1927 and 1928, hitting a record of 562 entries. The number of films eligible the last two years makes sense since the eligibility windows were altered because of the pandemic.
The number of eligible films this year is around previous numbers, including last year's 276 feature films, 2020's historic recent high of 366 feature files, 2019's 344 feature films, 2018's 347 features films, 2017's 341 feature films, 2016's 336 feature films, 2015's 305 feature films and 2014's 323 features.

This is the 11th year for e-voting.
The eligibility window is back to a full calendar year, after pandemic-related changes that extended the eligibility period for the 93rd Academy Awards consideration beyond the standard Dec. 31 deadline: a feature film could have a qualifying release date between Jan. 1, 2020 and Feb. 28, 2021.
The 95th Academy Awards, for outstanding film achievements of 2022, will be presented on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood (formerly Hollywood & Highland Center), and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.

For the 94th Academy Awards year only, the window was between March 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021. Drive-in theaters open nightly were also included as qualifying commercial venues in certain cities. Films intended for theatrical release but initially made available through commercial streaming, VOD service or other broadcast could qualify if the film is made available on the secure Academy Screening Room member site within 60 days of the streaming/VOD release or broadcast.
Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.
The submission deadline for general entry categories, including Best Picture, was Nov. 15, 2022.
The Academy notes in its release:
“To be eligible for Best Picture consideration, films must have submitted a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards entry as part of the submission requirements. Meeting inclusion thresholds will not be required for eligibility in the Best Picture category until the 96th Oscars.”
We are a few weeks away from the 95th Academy Awards nominations announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.
