This week has been, thus far, fairly busy for awards season junkies. Here is a roundup of what's been going on.
More nominations have been announced, which help point more and more possible Oscar contenders and are affirming a love for "The Social Network" and "The King's Speech" as frontrunners for the Oscar Best Picture Race.

Also on Tuesday, the Producers Guild of America announced nominees for its 22nd annual Producers Guild Awards. These awards have proven to be a fairy good indicator Academy Award nominees. For example, eight of last year's nominated films went on to secure Oscar nominations. "The Hurt Locker," PGA's winning picture last year, went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture. "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008) and "No Country for Old Men" (2007) were both PGA and Oscar Best Picture winners. Since 1990, the PGA winner went on to win the Best Picture Oscar 13/20 times. With that in mind, here are the nominees:
The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures

App refresh
Just before Christmas, the Academy quietly launched an update (Version 2.0) of its Oscars application for Apple devices. The Gold Knight uses the term "quietly" because a major feature of the app is predicting the winners. With the nominations announcement not until Jan. 25, waiting to announce a new version is smart.
Version 2.0 boasts more features that make the app more useful and multipurpose. The initial offering was a step in the right direction. With the update, fans can view the latest news, photos and videos from the Academy, along with peruse past winners via the searchable database.
According to iTunes' App Store, Version 2.0 also boasts better prediction capabilities: users can create groups and invite friends to participate; real time scoring; and social network sharing.
The Gold Knight also likes the suave new look. Download the app here.
The app, along with the Academy's increased social media presence (Exhibit A and B), should make for a very interactive 83rd Academy Awards on Feb. 27.
