The number of eligible films is down from last year's high of 323 features, but up from 2013's 289 features.

Oscars voting begins on Wednesday, Dec. 30, for Academy members. They have until Friday, Jan. 8.
This is the fourth year e-voting.
According to Academy rules, feature-length films must open "for paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County" by midnight, Dec. 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days to be eligible for Best Picture at the Oscars.
A feature-length motion picture, as defined by the Academy, must be longer than 40 minutes and be exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying "Digital Cinema format."
"Films that, in any version, receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release will not be eligible for Academy Awards in any category."
We are less than 31 days away from the 88th Academy Awards nominations announcement on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.
The 88th Academy Awards, for outstanding film achievements of 2015, will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 225 countries worldwide.
