Oscars 2013: 75 Original Songs in the race

Seventy-five Original Songs from eligible feature-length films have made the cut to contend for the 85th Academy Awards, the Academy announced Tuesday. Songs include "Learn Me Right" from "Brave" and the title track from "Skyfall."

Seventy-five Original Songs from eligible feature-length films, up from last year's 39, have made the cut to contend for the 85th Academy Awards, the Academy announced Tuesday.

Members will be asked to watch songs clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.

Rules were simplified this year after a stringent point system almost killed the category.

Artists included in the list of songs include Mumford and Sons ("Learn Me Right" from "Brave") and Adele ("Skyfall" from "Skyfall").

To be eligible, "a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits," according to the Academy.

We are 29 days away from the 85th Academy Awards nominations announcement, which will be announced live on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 5:35 a.m. PT.

The 85th Academy Awards, for outstanding film achievements of 2012, will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 225 countries worldwide.
